Eva Mendes showered love on Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary during its NYC premiere. The Hitch star shared pictures from the event, showing her kissing her partner’s face on the poster. She expressed in the caption, “Fist my bump. Last night’s date night looked a little different. I fell in love with Ryland Grace and now that damn alien Rock has my heart, too. I’m so in. Just beautiful.”

At the New Heights podcast, Gosling shared how being a father to his and Mendes’s kids made the film special. The couple, who have been dating since 2011, share two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. He told hosts Jason and Travis Kelce, “Being a dad, having two young kids, and I feel like everything is designed to scare them.”

Gosling continued, “I was so grateful just as a father to get to make a story for my kids—maybe, not to be too lofty—for their generation, that reminds you of what we’re capable of as human beings.” The Barbie star added, “It doesn’t pretend that there’s not gonna be problems, but that we can solve them.”

Project Hail Mary is inspired by Andy Weir’s novel of the same name. Gosling emphasized how the author’s take on humanity became a needful reminder for him. The 45-year-old said, “He believes in people. He believes in what we’re capable of.”

The father of two continued, “He believes that we’re capable of great things, and it’s not unearned optimism. It’s not just optimism for the sake of it.” He further explained, “He reminds you in his work that all the great innovations in human history started as impossible ideas. Human beings made them possible. We make the impossible possible all the time.”
