Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about filming intimate scenes with her much younger Marty Supreme co-star, Timothee Chalamet, revealing the experience was far less awkward than she anticipated.
Gwyneth Paltrow talks about Timothee Chalamet scenes
During a recent Q&A, Gwyneth Paltrow discussed the reality of shooting sex scenes for the recent A24 film, Marty Supreme. The 53-year-old actress admitted she initially had reservations, given the age gap between her and the 30-year-old Chalamet. “He was 27 or 28, and I was 50-whatever, and, I mean, it’s weird,” Paltrow told fellow actress Demi Moore, who moderated the talk at San Vicente Bungalows (via People).
Her concern extended to Chalamet’s comfort as well. “And I [thought], ‘Oh, if it’s weird for me, then it’s going to probably really weird for [him],'” she shared. However, the Oscar winner was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly the process went.
Paltrow elaborated that her initial worries quickly dissipated once filming began. “It was a lot of sex scenes … and I was sort of worried about it too, just having not done all that kind of thing in so long, but it was very comfortable, and it was fine,” she explained. Ultimately, she concluded, “It wasn’t that weird.”
Gwyneth Paltrow also heaped praise on Timothee Chalamet, sharing that his professional demeanor was a major reason the scenes felt so manageable. “He’s so easy to work with,” she said, adding, “He’s so brilliant and committed and comfortable and confident.”
While Paltrow found the work environment comfortable, the same cannot be said for one another viewer: her 19-year-old son, Moses. “Oh my God! My poor son,” Paltrow told Moore. “Can you imagine when he came to the premiere in L.A.? He wanted to die,” she quipped of the child she shares with ex-husband Chris Martin.
Marty Supreme, which features Chalamet as an ambitious table tennis player in 1950s New York and Paltrow as his love interest, is now in theaters.
