Gwyneth Paltrow will soon return in a leading television role in a two-season deal between Netflix and A24. This will be Paltrow’s first leading role in a television series. She previously played Georgina Hobart in The Politician and had a recurring role in Glee.
According to Deadline, Paltrow will star in the thriller series The Apology. The Marvel actress will play Evelyn Amspoker in the show. The series was secured under Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada. Paltrow will also serve as one of the show’s executive producers.
Oscar-winning director Thomas Vinterberg is also attached to the series. Best known for directing Another Round and The Hunt, Vinterberg will make his television directing debut with the series. Netflix acquired the series, which will be produced by A24 and Cut To, Joe Hipps’ production company. The streamer put out a two-season straight-to-series order over the weekend.

The Apology brings a murdered son’s cold case back into focus
According to the official description, The Apology is an upcoming thriller series that will follow Evelyn and Caleb Amspoker, whose son was murdered 18 years ago in a cold case that gripped the nation. When a stranger suddenly appears and confesses, justice finally seems possible—until they learn the killer may get off with a reduced sentence. Faced with that unbearable truth, Evelyn and Caleb decide to take matters into their own hands.
The show is written by Joe Murtagh, best known for The Woman in the Wall, Say Nothing, and Calm with Horses. Murtagh will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Hipps, Vinterberg, and Paltrow. Since the series was recently ordered by Netflix, the production has not yet begun. Moreover, additional cast information has not been revealed, but more details can be expected soon.
