Rock Beef: Arctic Monkeys Compared to Backstreet Boys

One month after they criticised the Arctic Monkeys’ “synchronised” live shows, The Orwells have now firmly burnt bridges with the band they previously supported on their US arena tour by comparing them to the Backstreet Boys.

Speaking to DIY, The Orwells’ Matt O’Keefe said: “They try and mash together genres. [They’re] kind of like the hip Backstreet Boys or something.”

He continued: “The set list was always the same. If you saw the show once, you saw every show that they played. I mean, we learned lessons from good things that they did, but then also – let’s not fucking do that.”

The Arctic Monkeys’ frontman Alex Turner didn’t take too kindly to The Orwells’ suggestion that the Sheffield band was phoning it in, saying: “They should have been out trying to get laid instead of watching us every night.” Still, it appears that The Orwells aren’t going to let this one lie. At least, not until they’re done promoting their new album Disgraceland, anyway.
