The Black Keys Planning An Australian Return

The Black Keys have let slip a return visit to Australia is looking more likely for early next year.

With the duo’s eighth studio album, Turn Blue, just around the corner, vocalist Dan Auerbach confirmed the Black Keys would be once again heading Down Under to support the new release despite looking to scale back touring duties this time around.

“We’re not going to do quite as much touring,” Auerbach told The Australian.

“We’re still going to work our asses off. That’s just who we are, but we’re not going to work that many dates in a row … That was overkill. After a while that becomes counterproductive,” Auerbach said referring to the amount of time the Black Keys spent on the road after 2011’s El Camino.

“We’ve been successful in different parts of the world and we could spend our whole lives just touring,” Auerbach explained.

“We could do extensive tours of Australia, Asia and all of Europe and all of South and North America. It’s hard to say no to that. We’re working-class people. We’re from a place where if you’re given the opportunity to make money you go do it. It’s not like we have a back-up plan or a college degree or anything. That’s all we’ve done.”

Auerbach and Black Keys partner Patrick Carney have been regular visitors in Australia since first visiting in 2003, but last played Aussie shows back in 2012.

Turn Blue will be available from May 13. The first single, ‘Fever’, was released last week.
