New York Man On LSD Rescues Dog From Burning House…That Wasn’t On Fire At All

Well, he’s still a hero in my book.

Drugs make people do some pretty messed up things — just ask the naked guy who dove headfirst off a stage at EDC only to be caught by no one. Or ask the the Florida grandmother who was so high that she was caught having sex in front of her grandson. The point is, you kids should stay away from drugs. Although, it was drugs that made the guy in this story a hero. Sort of.

Michael Orchard, a 43-year-old man from Halfmoon, admitted that he took a mix of LSD with cough syrup right before he broke into a neighbor’s house to save the family house from a fire. The only problem was that there was no fire, and Michael was just on one hell of a trip.

Police found Orchard standing outside the house with the dog in his arms, thinking he had just saved him. “He believed that the residence was on fire and he was rescuing the dog,” Trooper Mark Cepiel explained.

Orchard apparently went around the neighborhood banging on doors yelling about a fire. But since he was ignored, Orchard took matters into his own hands. And just how did he do that? Oh, you know, by driving his BMW sedan though a fence. Orchard then proceeded to walk up to the back door, smash through the door and saved the family’s large white dog. Good going, Mike!

And what was Orchard’s reward? Well, he was charged with second degree burglary and third degree criminal mischief, with bail set at $15,000. Orchard did not get a drug charge because according to Cepiel, Orchard “drove over yards and through the fence.” And  “at no point was he on the roadway and no illegal substances were found in his possession.”

Well the good news is the dog was unharmed, but boy did it have one hell of a day.
