Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ and the Most Controversial Celebrity Videos Ever

Nicki Minaj is currently blowing up the Internet with her ‘Anaconda’ video, which has attracted both criticism and praise for its overtly sexual themes and focus on the female posterior.

But Nicki wasn’t the first celebrity to have a controversial video of themselves doing the rounds on the Internet, and she certainly won’t be the last. Here’s our take on ‘Anaconda’ and other controversial celebrity videos that have had people talking by the water cooler (do people even do that anymore?):

Nicki Minaj don’t want none unless you got buns hun.

It’s amazing how a famous person’s backside can temporarily bring the Internet to a standstill, especially considering that it is essentially the home of porn. The people who lambasted Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ for its lengthy visual tribute to butts are probably the very same people who spend their spare time with their right hand down their trousers and their left hand frantically clicking through PornHub.

Justin Bieber peeing into a bucket.

Imagine being Justin Bieber. It doesn’t bear thinking about, does it? If I spent one hour in the youngster’s exponentially expensive hi-tops, I’d wind up having at least three panic attacks within the first 10 minutes and wind up spending the next 50 lying in my gold-encrusted bed, wishing that the nightmare would end.

When the video of him peeing into a bucket surfaced online, everyone dug their claws into the precocious popstar. How dare he? That was a cleaner’s bucket, does he have no respect for the working man/woman? Who does he think he is?

A few years back I drunkenly pissed all over Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon. I was older than Justin Bieber was when he urinated into that cleaning bucket, and I still found it funny. There was something liberating about relieving myself all over the side of the place that the Bard used to call home. It was a yellow stream of indignation, a liquid message from a “new media” employee to a writer from the days of yore: “Sure, you may have sold out the Globe Theatre a few times, William, but I have thousands of random people on the Internet reading my article on Nicki Minaj’s ass.”

I doubt Justin Bieber put as much thought into his act of defiance as I did mine, but my point remains: the cleaner probably emptied the bucket, Bieber continued with his life of performing to 14-year-olds and trying to avoid raising the ire of music journalists, and I still tell people about the time I took a piss up Shakespeare’s house.

John Lennon says The Beatles are bigger than Jesus.

Back when everyone lived in black and white, John Lennon said that The Beatles had become more popular than Jesus, which was a silly thing to say when you think about it. I mean, the Son of God hadn’t seen his fans in 2,000 years, let alone released a new album. At that point The Beatles were releasing new material left, right and center, so it was an unfair comparison for Lennon to make, and Jesus fans responded by burning the band’s albums and memorabilia.

Such was the extent of the backlash that John Lennon had to explain himself to the media in a press conference held before one of their live shows, which was probably just a form of damage control to ensure that when Jesus did release his next album, he didn’t put a diss track on there calling The Beatle out. However, The Beatles have since disbanded/died, and Jesus has still yet to release another LP.

Miley Cyrus throws herself around the stage at VMAs 2013

Miley Cyrus’ VMAs 2013 performance was exhausting to watch. It felt like when you’re forced to look after a friend/family member’s child, and the mere sight of them running around your house and falling over themselves makes you want to go to sleep and never wake up. The Artist Formerly Known as Hannah Montana appeared to have ingested too many confectionery items and her body was responding with almost Satanic convulsions.

Everything from her tightly bunned hair to her foam-finger waggling and extensive gyrating upon professional sex pest Robin Thicke’s pelvis left me feeling mentally drained, so much so that I turned off my TV and went to bed. The next day I had awoken to news that the performance had “gone viral,” and like any self-respecting product of new media, this meant that I was immediately interested in what I had missed.

Turns out that what I had “missed” was exactly what I had witnessed before my slumber – a popstar in 2014 acting like a popstar in 2014. Nonetheless, everyone was (and still is) debating “what happened” to the former Disney star and what they thought of her. Here’s what I think: She’s got a song on Bangerz called ‘FU’ that I really like. Me and my girlfriend play it in the car sometimes and I’ve often embarrassed myself whilst singing along to it.
