PS4 Sales More Than Doubled Those of the Xbox One Over the Past Three Months

Despite the Xbox One having bested the PS4 over a number of months around the last Holiday period, Sony has revealed that its console continues to be more popular by a considerable margin.

This news comes after Sony’s announcement that the PS4 has sold 3 million units in the three months ending June 30th, with Microsoft having previously stated that their Xbox consoles, which includes both the Xbox One and Xbox 360, had shifted 1.4 million units within the same time period. Microsoft refrained from giving actual numbers in regards to how many Xbox One units had been sold specifically, so we don’t know exactly how much the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One by, but suffice to say it’s a significantly large number.

This number was accompanied by the news that Sony has now shipped 25.3 million PS4 consoles worldwide, with the company adjusting its annual sales forecast to 16.5 million units from the previously expected 16 million units.

While it now looks like catching up with the PS4 is out of Microsoft’s reach, Sony’s console certainly has a tough year ahead of it when it  comes to software releases. With not much around the corner in terms of exclusives until the release of Uncharted 4 in 2016, Sony is reliant upon it pulling in better multi-platform sales than its competitor in order to keep its position atop the throne. Meanwhile, Microsoft has the likes of Halo 5: Guardians releasing on the Xbox One this year, a game that is sure to drive in more hardware sales.

Whatever console you own, both have a bright future so you needn’t concern yourself with which is selling better right now. That’s for Sony and Microsoft to worry about while the rest of us sit back and play games.
