Guy Has Xbox One Stolen by “Friend”, Activity Feed Serves Justice

Sometimes it’s the little mistakes that get criminals caught. In the case of a recent event where an Xbox One was stolen, the perpetrator underestimated the features of the console.

A user on Reddit by the name of iforgottokayiguess has posted the following story:

Long story short, my best friend has been going downhill for quite a while now and we’ve lost touch. We could never have a conversation without talking about Xbox and how much he needed to get one so we can play together more often. He hit me up a few weeks after the home invasion telling me he just got an Xbox One. I was suspicious because he was already level 24 in Destiny, it didn’t make sense. So I went to his activity feed and scrolled all the way down to the first Achievement unlocked, and it was the Achievement for creating a profile in Forza 5 Motorsport… That game was in my Xbox when it was stolen. Among other things that caught my eye in his activity, this was enough for the Detective to pursue.

He confessed in the squad car and gave up the Xbox without hesitation. When he stepped foot in my house illegally and stole from me, he stopped being my best friend. I am pressing charges. Without the Xbox Activity feed, this would have just been another cold burglary case. Thank you Microsoft!!! Oh and yes I got my Xbox back! Woo! EDIT: REGISTER YOUR XBOXS FOLKS! I didn’t and was lucky enough to be in the Preview Updates and it stored my SN under Manage Consoles.

The perpetrator had cut a window screen to gain entrance to the living room where he stole the console. Here’s a photo of the screen he cut to enter the victim’s home:

Unsurprisingly, the perpetrator had a warrant out for his arrest prior to this event. For that reason, police were authorized to enter the home and arrest him where they would find the victim’s console hooked up to the entertainment center. He’s now being processed for the original warrant before he’s prosecuted for the burglary. He is likely to serve jail time.

To make things even better, the victim posted that he had a good laugh with the detective in-charge of the arrest. This is one of the more moronic burglaries he’s seen.
