Turn 10 Says Forza 5 is its Greatest Challenge Yet

There are several big racing titles coming out during this holiday season, but none is more ambitious than Forza 5.

After discussing with OXM UK how cloud computing will allow Forza 5 to be a big leap over previous titles in the franchise, studio manager Alan Hartman shared the difficulty in crafting the game Turn 10 envisions:

Forza 5 is a massive game, a quality game, an innovative game. At launch of the console. It’s crazy hard. It’s the hardest thing we’ve ever done. But it’s exciting, we’re having fun, but it’s a huge challenge.

Beyond the game’s high level of detail, which was shown in remarkable fashion during E3 2013, Forza 5 attacks the unrealistic A.I. that has held back racing simulation for years. Instead of coming up with algorithms to produce lifelike driving behavior, the game uses Drivatar, a system that constantly analyzes how real-world players drive to build profiles. Using these profiles, racing against brain dead A.I. is a thing of the past. Some drivers will be extremely aggressive like the legendary Senna, while others wait for the perfect moment to strike.

Forza 5 will be the first game to try this system, and while it looks promising it’s extremely complicated. It’s proving to be a lot of work for Turn 10 but fans are ready to give it a try, as indicated by it being the most pre-ordered Xbox One exclusive for this holiday season.
