Gerard Butler Breaks Free of the Point Break Remake

100% pure adrenaline is apparently a little too much adrenaline for Gerard Butler. The star of Olympus Has Fallen has just dropped out of the Point Break remake, in which he was slated to replace Patrick Swayze as the zen master extreme sports enthusiast Bodhi. Parts get recast in Hollywood all the time, but this is particularly short notice: Point Break was scheduled to begin shooting in just a few weeks.

Hollywood Reporter reports (in their usual, Hollywood fashion) that Alcon Entertainment plans to keep the movie on schedule and will announce a replacement very soon. They cite potential scheduling conflicts with the fall production schedule of London is Falling, the sequel to his modest 2013 “Die Hard in the White House” success story. And just for the hell of it, “creative differences” were also a factor.

If Bodhi can be recast in time, the Point Break remake is scheduled to be directed by former The Fast and the Furious cinematographer Ericson Core, and to co-star G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s Luke Bracey in Keanu Reeves’ old role as an FBI agent tempted to the dark side by charismatic outlaw surfers. As soon as Bodhi falls into place, the little hand will presumably say that it’s time to rock and roll.
