Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor are reportedly staging talks for a huge fight, with the boxing and MMA superstars rumored to lock horns sooner rather than later.

The revelation was made by The Sun, which claims that the two will go toe-to-toe in Las Vegas this summer. According to the tabloid, the retired, undefeated boxing champion was angered by comments previously made by McGregor, in which the MMA star said he would “kill” Mayweather in “less than thirty seconds.”  “It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him”, McGregor continued.

While the Irish fighter is currently facing problems regarding his future career in the UFC, with him having been removed from the UFC 200 card after refusing to do promotional material for his rematch against Nate Diaz, the report suggests that the match against Mayweather would bag him a whopping $10 million (roughly £7 million). However, this pales in comparison to the ludicrous amount that would allegedly be received by Mayweather, who would supposedly earn $140 million (£100 million).

According to a “source”, the fight would reportedly be “strictly boxing” and McGregor would be forced to “lose roughly 25lbs”. Though this would place McGregor at a natural disadvantage, with Mayweather being undefeated and a bigger star, it would be unlikely that the boxer would agree to an MMA bout. It also appears that McGregor is far more enthusiastic for this fight to take place than Mayweather, with him being the one to reference Mayweather in the past, which first kicked off the speculation that the two would one day square up to one another.

The Sun claims that an official announcement will be made in the coming weeks, though this news should obviously be taken with a pinch of salt given the tabloid’s unverified sources regarding the rumors. Still, if true, this is major news and will likely be the most profitable fight since Mayweather faced Manny Pacquiao.
