Meet Your New Favorite Woman on the Internet: Ashley Graham

People become alarmingly opinionated when they’re confronted by a model who challenges their preconceptions of the industry. Over the past few years we’ve seen the term “plus-size” being freely banded about, a catch-all moniker that is used to describe the body type of any woman who doesn’t have a slender figure, and then we’ve seen a disproportionately angry response to models being of this vague body type, with detractors (typically of the anonymous variety) claiming that it somehow promotes child obesity to see women of varying shapes and sizes promoting fashion campaigns and the like.

As a body activist, Ashley Graham promotes the idea that women should be comfortable in their own skin no matter if they’re slim or curvy. Fronting magazines such as Elle and having made numerous headlines with her messages of body positivity, the model previously said of the modeling industry’s labeling of her: “At the end of the day, I know who I am. I am a model, and I happen to be curvy. The fashion industry happens to call me plus-size.”

Ashley has proven herself to be a wonderful ambassador of her message, giving those who are uncomfortable with their body a beautiful role model who highlights how women in the real world are of all shapes and sizes, and that this should be better represented in the modeling industry.
