Question The Nature of Reality In HBO’s First Westworld Teaser

Welcome to the future of sin.

During last night’s season finale of True Detective, HBO debuted the first teaser trailer for Westworld, an updated version of Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic film by Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Person of Interest) and Lisa Joy, with J.J. Abrams, jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk executive producing the series.

For the first time ever, screen legend and Academy Award winning actor Anthony Hopkins will headline a drama series in Westworld. Joining Hopkins are cast members Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan.

Like the first Westworld, the HBO adaptation takes place in the near future as true artificial consciousness is on the verge of becoming a reality. In a theme park of the future, humanity uses androids to live out their every fantasy and dark desires. But as the androids realize that they have no say in their existence, it’s pretty safe to assume that some android is gonna go on a Yul Brynner-style rampage.

In the first teaser trailer, Woods’ Delores is examined by her creators to determine if she has started to question the world that she was created for. Along the way, brief glimpses of the other main characters are seen.

HBO will debut Westworld in 2016.
