Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest hauled in $132 million over its opening weekend, crushing 2002’s Spider-Man record for a debut by $18 million and shattering every box office opening record. In addition to being the first movie ever to top $100 million in two days, POTC2 earned $55.5 million on Friday, beating the previous record of $50 million set last year by Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Disney states the movie is appealing to all sexes and age groups:
It is straight across the board,” said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney, which based the movies on its “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme park ride. “Everybody’s coming. Whoever it is, they’re there.”
It’s no Hollywood secret that casting a super hot skinny chick is essential for any movie’s success, so it’s really no surprise that Superman Returns has only made $9 million more that POTC2 yet it has been out 9 days longer. Yes, Kate Bosworth is skinny, but she isn’t supposed to look like she could borrow Beach Blast Barbie’s clothes. No matter what I tell my girlfriends, there is such a thing as too skinny.
