At the end of the feature film, The X-Files: I Want To Believe, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were still in a romantic relationship as they carved out a happy ending in an uncertain world. 7 years later, the happy ending is over, and The X-Files is back!
During last night’s episodes of Gotham and Minority Report, Fox unveiled a two-part trailer for The X-Files in which David Duchovny’s Mulder notes that his investigation ended in 2002 (the same year as the series finale), but his personal obsession remained. The first part of the trailer also teased Joel McHale’s appearance as Tad O’Malley, a conservative talk show host who needs Mulder’s help solving an apparent alien abduction.
Mitch Pileggi also makes his return appearance as Walter Skinner in the clip, as he convinces Mulder to reopen the X-Files. And of course, that means Mulder needs the help of his old partner, Scully (Gillian Anderson).
The second part of The X-Files trailer ratchets up the tension as the reformed Mulder and Scully duo dive into new conspiracies and otherworldly mysteries. There is also the unmistakable return of a familiar face from the original series, which is bad news for Mulder and Scully.

That’s right, the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) is back! And that’s some trick, considering that CSM was incinerated in the series finale of The X-Files. But is anyone really going to complain when the series’ best villain is making an encore appearance?
Annabeth Gish will also reprise her role as Agent Monica Reyes in The X-Files miniseries, alongside a guest star lineup that includes Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Annet Mahendru, Rhys Darby, and Kumail Nanjiani.
The X-Files six-episode miniseries will make its North American debut at New York Comic Con, with the official premiere coming on Sunday January 24, 2016 after the NFC Championship game.
