Bianca Belair Compares Her WrestleMania 38 Win To Her Victory Last Year

Bianca Belair made history again at WWE WrestleMania 38 Night One.

For the second year in a row, “The EST” won a women’s championship at “The Showcase of the Immortals.” Whereas she dethroned WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks last year,  Belair defeated Becky Lynch to win the RAW Women’s Championship on Saturday night.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, the new champion discussed her victory. She made it clear that she was grateful to have the opportunity to hold the gold. “The EST” also stated that she was happy because she avenged her previous loss to Lynch.

“It feels surreal, you know,” said Belair. “To be able to become champion again on ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’ at WrestleMania and to go back to back and make history again. It was the first time that the two women that won the main event of WrestleMania went head to head, so the best woman walked out tonight. But I’m just so grateful to be in this position and to be able to get redemption tonight, so I’m just happy.”

Belair then compared her to monumental WrestleMania victories. She explained that this year was more personal, given her lengthy feud with Lynch, and this aspect of the rivalry made her crowning moment that much sweeter.

“You know last year I walked into WrestleMania as a rookie, and I was just there to prove myself and to make history with Sasha Banks,” said Belair. “This year, it was more personal. This has been going on since August, at SummerSlam, when Becky Lynch took the title from me in 26 seconds. She’s been doing everything she can to keep me away from this because she knew that when we finally threw down in the ring that I was gonna come out on top, so this year was more about redemption, it was more personal.

“And this is my first time being in front of a full crowd at WrestleMania. It’s the most people I’ve ever performed in front of and it was the fans that have been riding with me since SummerSlam. So to be able to hold this title up after the match and celebrate with all those fans, I couldn’t ask for a better night.”

“The EST” elaborated on the comparison by describing how she was more nervous this year because she had more to lose. Still, she noted that she wasn’t scared because WrestleMania is inherently nerve-wracking.

“I was nervous, so nervous,” said Belair. “I thought, ‘I did it last year, so I thought it should be easier this year.’ No, I was more nervous this year. I think just because it was more personal and I wasn’t just trying to prove myself. I had a lot to lose, I had more to lose this year. And I knew what it felt like to be champion and have that title taken from me, so I wanted to have that feeling again of what it felt like to be champion, and not let everyone go down that has been cheering for me since SummerSlam.

“So it was definitely a whole lot more nerve-wracking but that’s WrestleMania. It’s The Grandest Stage of Them All, it’s a stupendous night. So it’s always gonna be super nerve-wracking and nervous. And I was nervous, but I wasn’t scared. So that’s the key there.”
