Sean Waltman Wins First Match Since 2019 At GCW Welcome To Heartbreak

WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman, also known as X-Pac, returned to the ring at GCW Welcome to Heart Break, and he won his first match since 2019.

Waltman has battled various issues in recent years, and he hadn’t been medically cleared to compete due to a surgery that repaired his ACL, MCL and meniscus last year. But he got the green light to compete later in the year and made it clear that he wanted to wrestle again. His comeback began at The WRLD on GCW, where he attacked Matt Cardona following his victory over Joey Janela. In doing so, he set the stage for a heated tag team bout at GCW’s show on February 25, where Waltman joined forces with Janela and faced The Major Players (Cardona and Brian Myers).

Despite the latter duo’s mission to end Waltman’s comeback, the legend emerged victorious when he pinned Myers at the end of a hard-fought bout. The Hall of farmer played some of his classic hits, as he delivered some heel kicks and Bronco Busters for old time’s sake.

Here’s how the match broke down, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

Janela takes Myers and Waltman down with a double kick. All four men are fighting in the ring, and everyone is down after a flurry of offense. “The Bad Boy” gets a door and sets it up at ringside. Cardona takes the door and brings it into the ring. But Janela dodges Cardona’s Radio Silence, forcing him to send Myers through a door. Janela sends Cardona crashing through a door at ringside, X-Pac hits the X-Factor, and Janela hits an elbow drop for a near fall. Myers tags in, and Cardona hits both of his opponents with a chair. X-Pac rallies and hits an X-Factor through the door on Myers for the win.

After the bout, X-Pac grabbed a microphone and, in an emotional message, thanked the fans and GCW. He stated that, if this was his last bout, he couldn’t think of a more fitting way to end his career. He started to talk about how he used to be in a tag team with Janela several years ago before “The Bad Body” betrayed his partner and laid him out to close the show.

Time will tell what Waltman’s future in GCW and beyond holds.
