WWE NXT WarGames: Men’s WarGames Match Result

WWE NXT WarGames concluded with an emotional match in which Team Black and Gold, the old guard of NXT, faced Team 2.0, the new stars who have stepped into the spotlight since the brand’s drastic rebrand earlier this fall. In the buzzworthy main event, NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, LA Knight and Pete Dunne faced NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo, Grayson Waller and Bron Breakker.

In a highlight before the match even started, Gargano came to the ring with his classic “Rebel Heart” theme. Gargano’s contract reportedly expired earlier this month, but he signed a one-week extension so he could compete at WarGames. His future with the company was still up in the air heading into the show.

“Johnny Wrestling” and Hayes started the bout, and Team 2.0 isolated Hayes early on. Dunne took the fight to the newcomers when he entered the ring, but the ringside presence of Trick Williams helped Team 2.0 maintain the advantage, as he kept tossing weapons to Hayes and his allies. The unexpected arrival of Dexter Lumis, who was biding his time under the ring, neutralized the threat of Williams, as “Sexy Dexy” chased Williams to the back after he gave his “step-father” Gargano a thumbs up.

Later in the bout, the veterans gained the upper hand; Dunne brutalzed Waller’s fingers, and #DIY reunited when Gargano and Ciampa hit a flurry of offense together. Waller and D’Angelo briefly took control, but Knight sent Waller crashing through a table with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex off the top rope.

Waller eventually got revenge when he sent Knight crashing through a table with an elbow drop. Dunne kept tormenting his opponents by attacking their fingers. A slam off the top rope put both Dunne and D’Angelo down, so Ciampa and Breakker were left by themselves to duke it out. Gargano rallied to help his partner, and he drilled Breakker with One Final Beat. #DIY then hit Breakker with #DIY’s signature finisher, but Hayes pulled the referee away to stop the pin. Hayes then hit Gargano below the belt, and Breakker blasted Ciampa with a Spear through a table for the win.
