Report: Johnny Gargano Agrees To Short-Term WWE Contract Extension

Johnny Gargano is staying with WWE for a little bit longer.

Johnny Gargano recently signed a short-term contract extension with WWE, according to a new report from Fightful Select. Gargano was added to the men’s NXT War Games match that is set to take place on December 5, which is two days after his contract was originally set to expire.

Gargano’s original contract was set to expire on December 3, but he has signed a one-week extension that now keeps him under contract until December 10. It was also noted that Johnny Gargano and WWE are still in contract talks for a long-term deal, and WWE sources spoke highly of Gargano’s willingness to negotiate despite his appeal to other promotions.

Fightful first reported Gargano’s deal was set to expire on December 3 in September; it was noted at the time that WWE is expected to try and keep him. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp also noted that unlike the situation with Adam Cole and Pete Dunne, whose contract expirations came as a bit of a surprise, WWE was aware of Gargano’s deal coming up.

Gargano made his first appearance in WWE in 2015 and worked that year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, but he has been under contract with WWE since 2016.
