Former NXT Champion Johnny Gargano is reportedly in the same group as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as a WWE star whose contract is expiring soon.
Whereas Owens’ contract is up in January and Zayn’s will expire at some point soon, but not in the fall, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Gargano’s contract is expiring on December 3, 2021. Ross Sapp noted that WWE sources confirmed the news; these same sources hinted that the two sides have not started to negotiate yet, but WWE is “expected to” try and keep him.
Ross Sapp goes on to note that unlike Adam Cole and Pete Dunne, who had their contract expirations surprisingly come up, WWE was aware of this deal, as the company had thought it would expire when Cole’s deal was due.
Gargano is an NXT Triple Crown Champion, and he has officially been a signed member of the roster since 2016. In recent months, he has been featured on WWE NXT as a leader of The Way and as a prominent part of the InDex storyline.
