SCU, Lucha Bros Advance In AEW Tag Team Tournament

Scorpio Sky wasn’t expected to compete tonight, but the Lucha Bros managed to take out Christopher Daniels before SCU could take on The Best Friends. As such, Sky was inserted into his teammate’s spot.

The early attack gave The Best Friends a huge advantage and they were dominant early on in the AEW Tag Team Tournament quarterfinal. However, Sky and Frankie Kazarian weren’t about to go down without a fight and managed to battle back into the match. The end finally came after Kazarian and Sky hit Trent with a powerbomb into a dropkick for the pin.

SCU will face off against The Dark Order in the semi-finals.

The other quarterfinal match saw the Lucha Bros take on the Jurassic Express (Marko Stunt and Jungle Boy). Stunt started off against Pentagon, and the luchador absolutely manhandled the much smaller wrestler. Thanks to a distraction by Jungle Boy, Stunt was able to get some impressive offense in against his opponents.

Referee Aubrey Edwards failed to get the match under control and it was contested more under tornado tag rules during much of the match. Jungle Boy was eventually tagged in and hit a German suplex for a near-pin after Stunt hit a 619. Once Fenix came into the ring, the Lucha Bros were able to finally get on the offensive with a series of dives. After that, the match became one-sided as Pentagon dominated Stunt.

The end finally came after Fenix and Jungle Boy were tagged in. After Jurassic Express hit a series of aerial maneuvers, Pentagon came back in and turned the tide of the match. He put on the arm breaker on Stunt, snapped his arm, and then Fenix hit a footstomp into a piledriver for the win.
