Kenny Omega Appears At Tokyo Sports Award Ceremony, Says He’ll Wrestle For A ‘Large International Platform’ In 2019

Kenny Omega made his first public appearance since he lost the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13, and said he’ll be wrestling on a big platform this year.

Omega appeared at the Tokyo Sports Awards with Kazuchika Okada to accept the award for Best Bout of 2018. During the acceptance speech, Omega said (according to a translation via Chris Charltonthat he “wouldn’t stand on the Tokyo Sports stage next year, that he would still be putting on [Match Of The Year] performances on a large international platform.”

Omega’s future in Japan has been questioned ever since he said he was leaving New Japan Pro-Wrestling after his contract expired. According to reports, Omega turned down a large offer from WWE, and may be headed to All Elite Wrestling, but Omega has not given any indication as to where he will make his new home yet.

According to a rough translation of his acceptance speech, Omega also addressed AEW, saying he can’t tell anyone what the future holds, but since he has friends in the company, he wishes them luck and supports them.
