Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan spoke with Sports Illustrated about the rise of Kenny Omega and the possibility of wrestling in WWE or All Elite Wrestling. Hogan, who has worked in Japan during the late 70s and early 80s, saw that Omega’s success wouldn’t be too dependent on working under the WWE umbrella.

“It’s tough to go your whole life without eating at McDonald’s or riding in a Chevrolet. If you don’t touch on the WWE, the story’s not complete. But maybe Kenny could be the exception.”

Omega has revealed in a Tokyo Sports interview that he will be departing New Japan Pro Wrestling with the speculation of joining the burgeoning All Elite Wrestling promotion. With the growing professional wrestling landscape, veterans like Hogan are seeing this as a new opportunity for wrestlers to make their name outside of WWE.

In the rest of the interview, Hogan also expresses his love for touring in Japan and how appreciative of his legacy being remembered there:

“If my pictures are still up there, it means I’ve stood the test of time. But it used to be potluck whose pictures were up on the wall. Ribera, depending on who was in Tokyo that night and All Japan was in Tokyo, they’d change the pictures on the wall. If I was in a different part of Japan with Inoki, Ribera would pull down the Hogan and Inoki’s pictures and put up Giant Baba and [Bruiser] Brody. We caught him doing it a few times, but he had a way of always making the talent feel special.”
