John Ridley Developing Marvel TV Series For ABC

Last week, word emerged that Marvel and ABC are looking to develop a spinoff from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski. But now it appears that Marvel may have something bigger on the horizon.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley is partnering with Marvel on a project that “involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC.” The early speculation from EW is that this may actually be the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff, but that is not confirmed at this time.

Ridley is the creator of ABC’s American Crime, which seems likely to get a second season. Ridley is also a well known comic book fan who has previously written The Authority, Warblade and The American Way. Additionally, Ridley was a writer on the 2004 Justice League animated series.

The premise for the proposed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff is still unclear, but earlier reports suggest that it will become more obvious later this season. The most popular rumors have suggested that Deathlok, Secret Warriors, Avengers Academy and Inhumans are among the frontrunners for the next Marvel TV show.
