David Tennant Is Zebediah Kilgrave In Marvel’s ‘AKA Jessica Jones’

Last fall, David Tennant’s stint on Fox’s “Gracepoint” came to an end after only a single season as the remake of “Broadchurch” didn’t catch on with Fox’s audience. But Tennant won’t be off television for long.

Marvel has announced that Tennant has been cast as Zebediah Kilgrave in the Netflix original series, “AKA Jessica Jones.” Originally created as a Daredevil villain in 1964, Kilgrave was better known as the Purple Man after exposure to a chemical turned his skin purple and gave him the ability to impose his will on other people.

In Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos’ Alias comic book series, Kilgrave was established as the personal nemesis of Jessica Jones (played by Krysten Ritter in the live action series) after he took control of her mind and severely traumatized her. In “AKA Jessica Jones,” the title character is a former superheroine attempting to rebuild her life as a private investigator.

Tennant is best known for playing the Tenth Doctor on “Doctor Who” and for his starring role on the British drama “Broadchurch.”

Marvel TV Head Jeph Loeb said “Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave. While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.”

“AKA Jessica Jones” is slated to begin production later this year, but a premiere date has yet to be announced.
