‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series Goes West

For almost two years, AMC has been developing a new companion series for “The Walking Dead” alongside series creator Robert Kirkman. While AMC has previously withheld information about the companion series’ premise, the details are finally starting to emerge.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the currently untitled “Walking Dead” companion series will take place in Los Angeles, California in the early days of the zombie apocalypse. Essentially, that makes it a prequel to the main “Walking Dead” TV series.

Cliff Curtis (“Gang Related”) was recently signed to play Sean Cabrera, the lead character of the “Walking Dead” companion series. Sean is described as “a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.” The female lead is a guidance counselor named Nancy, who has not yet been cast. However, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) has been signed to play Nancy’s son Nick, while Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Woods) is going to play Nancy’s daughter, Ashley.

Among the currently uncast roles in the companion series are Sean’s ex-wife, Andrea; and their son Cody.

AMC has only given a pilot commitment to “The Walking Dead’ companion series, but a short first season order seems likely. Production of the pilot episode is expected to begin in early 2015.
