Colin Farrell Rumored For ‘True Detective’ Season 2

During the Television Critics Association press tour, “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto denied all previous casting rumors about the show’s second season. Because “True Detective” is an anthology series, neither Matthew McConaughey nor Woody Harrelson will return and the second season will feature a new storyline and all new characters.

Despite Pizzolatto’s previous denials, Deadline is reporting that Colin Farrell “is deep in negotiations” to play one of the three leading roles in “True Detective” Season 2. Nothing about Farrell’s potential character was in the report, but it was noted that a stint on the show could be attractive to Farrell and other movie stars since it wouldn’t bind them to a series for more than a single short season.

Farrell has previously starred in Phone Booth, S.W.A.T., Minority Report, Alexander, Daredevil, The New World, Miami Vice, Total Recall, Saving Mr. Banks and Winter’s Tale. One of Farrell’s earliest roles as an actor was on the British TV series, “Ballykissangel.” But the last time that Farrell performed on television was in an episode of “Scrubs” back in 2005.

HBO hasn’t given any indication yet of when “True Detective” Season 2 will begin filming or when it will run. Presumably that announcement will come once the cast members are finally in place.
