Marvel fans think VisionQuest Episode 1 may have included an unexpected Easter egg. They believe Joe Locke, who played Billy Maximoff in Agatha All Along, may have made a brief appearance in the MCU’s latest series.
In the first episode, when Ruaridh Mollica’s Tommy Maximoff leaves a pub, a young man wearing a brown jacket and neck scarf walks past him. The same man later appears in the background while Tommy discusses his latest grifting incident with an accomplice. An X user, @Apex_willye, spotted the mysterious character in the episode and theorized that he is Billy Maximoff.
The man’s appearance resembles Joe Locke’s version of Billy from Agatha All Along. The two appearances have fueled speculation that the man could be Billy in disguise, secretly keeping tabs on his long-lost twin. Marvel has not confirmed the theory, and these brief appearances alone do not establish the character’s identity.
Billy and Tommy’s story in the MCU leaves room for more fan theories
Wanda Maximoff created Billy and Tommy through chaos magic within the Westview anomaly, where the brothers rapidly aged and developed powers. Agatha Harkness briefly kidnapped the brothers, but their mother later freed them. Their lives changed when Wanda dismantled the anomaly, causing their bodies to disappear. Billy managed to preserve their souls, but Tommy’s soul became separated from his brother.
In the Agatha All Along series, Billy Maximoff eventually placed Tommy’s soul into the body of a teenager, Thomas Shepherd, who had recently drowned. Then, Billy and a ghostly Agatha set out to find Tommy.
VisionQuest is the final installment in Marvel Television’s trilogy following WandaVision and Agatha All Along. The story follows Tommy Maximoff, now Thomas Shepherd, who lives in London as a street grifter. Terry Matalas created the show and serves as its showrunner.
VisionQuest will consist of eight episodes, and the first two episodes are now streaming on Disney+.
