The Sopranos Writer Making TV Show About US Government’s Real-Life UFO Cover-Ups

The Sopranos writer is diving into UFO territory next. He’s developing a TV adaptation of a memoir about alleged U.S. government UFO investigations. Terence Winter‘s new project will draw from former intelligence official Jay Stratton’s book Out of the Shadows. Dan Farah, director-producer of The Age of Disclosure, is spearheading the project.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Winter will executive produce the series through his Cold Front Productions banner. Farah will produce through Farah Films after acquiring the film and television rights to Stratton’s memoir. The project is based on Stratton’s experiences investigating unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and alleged non-human intelligent life.

Stratton previously served as Chief of Air & Space Warfare in the Defense Warning Office of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He worked on emerging and disruptive aerospace technologies before becoming involved in UAP investigations. He also helped establish the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program and later led the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force.

What is Terence Winter’s UFO series about?

The upcoming series will explore Stratton’s account of his government work. His memoir is scheduled to be published in the U.S. by William Morrow, a HarperCollins imprint, on October 13.

Winter also shared why Stratton’s story appealed to him. He said, “For all of human history, mankind has wondered whether we are the only intelligent life in the universe. Jay Stratton’s shocking true story answers that question and more as it delves into the world of the U.S. Government’s investigation of UAP and non-human intelligent life. It’s a riveting journey into a world the public knows little about.”

Farah described the memoir’s storytelling in his own statement. He said, “‘Out of the Shadows’ has the propulsive storytelling of a high-stakes political thriller,” adding that the series will explore the effect of Stratton’s work on him and his family.

Winter brings extensive television experience to the project. He also worked as writer-executive producer on The Sopranos, and served as executive producer and showrunner on Tulsa King. He also received an Academy Award nomination for adapting The Wolf of Wall Street.

Farah previously directed and produced The Age of Disclosure. His other producing credits include Ready Player One and The Shannara Chronicles.

The new series does not yet have an announced cast, network, or premiere date.
