The People v. Gorilla Grodd could bring three familiar DCU faces into the upcoming HBO Max series. According to a new report, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, and Isabela Merced are set to reprise their roles from Superman.
The report comes from X scooper Apocalyptic Horseman, who claims the trio will appear in one episode. Their reported return would connect the mockumentary series more closely to the wider DCU.
What the new report says about the returning DCU characters
According to the report, Sean Gunn will return as Maxwell Lord, while Edi Gathegi and Isabela Merced will reprise Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl. The three characters were introduced in James Gunn’s Superman, which launched the new DCU on the big screen.
Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord finances the Justice Gang. DC previously confirmed his connection to the team and noted his Peacemaker Season 2 appearance. Gathegi’s Mister Terrific is Michael Holt, a skilled hero who uses advanced technology and T-Spheres. Merced plays Hawkgirl, another Justice Gang member.
The actors also have popular appearances outside the DCU. Gathegi appeared in For All Mankind, The Blacklist, and StartUp. Merced is known for Alien: Romulus and The Last of Us, while Gunn has appeared across several Guardians of the Galaxy projects.
The People v. Gorilla Grodd is an eight-episode comedy centered on Jimmy Olsen. Skyler Gisondo returns from Superman, while Jimmy Tatro voices Gorilla Grodd. The story follows Olsen as he investigates Grodd’s conviction for murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City.
The reported appearances could also bring the Justice Gang back into the story. However, the report does not confirm whether Guy Gardner will appear alongside them.
DC Studios and HBO Max have not officially announced these three guest appearances. The series is currently filming in Atlanta and does not have a confirmed release date.
