Whoopi Goldberg silenced boos from the live audience on The View before Texas Senator Ted Cruz took the stage on September 9, 2026.
The ABC hosts discussed Wednesday night’s first-ever Republican midterm convention. Besides President Donald Trump, who will headline the event, other attendees include Vice President JD Vance, Health Secretary RFK JR., and Senator Ted Cruz.
Cruz was a guest on Wednesday morning’s episode of The View. Before he took the stage, the audience began booing the Republican politician. Goldberg then swiftly shut down the negative reaction.
“Ah-ah, no, no. You know what? Look…” Goldberg declared. “This is a place where Barbara Walters made sure that anybody who wanted to come and have a good conversation could come. So we want people to come, and we want to engage them. We don’t agree with them always. We don’t gel with them always, but we are respectful, and I know you will be too.”
The EGOT winner added, “I know you will be, because sometimes, you know, stuff, it’s like a burp. It comes up, so just swallow it back down.”
Why the audience booed Ted Cruz before his appearance on The View
When Cruz finally appeared on the show, he was met with applause. However, later on in the episode, when he gave the president a grade A for his handling of the current economy, Cruz received gasps and boos once more from the audience.
This isn’t the first time Ted Cruz has faced a cold reception on The View. During his previous appearance in 2022, the audience forced Goldberg to send the show to commercial break.
The View audience appeared to have booed Ted Cruz because of his political affiliation. He is a Republican representative of Texas in the United States Senate.
Republicans have kicked off their first midterm election convention in Dallas today. Vice President JD Vance will deliver a keynote, with President Trump headlining both nights of the two-night event, which is often referred to as “Trumpapalooza.”
