Katie Couric Gives Health Update After Stroke Scare

Journalist and presenter Katie Couric reveals a positive update following a stroke scare last month. She was initially frightened after having no memory of events from a festival.

Couric’s missing hours in Aspen led to a frightening hospital visit

Katie Couric has shared that she had a sudden episode of memory loss during the Aspen Ideas Festival, reports Variety. In a Substack post, she wrote that she remembers arriving at the festival on June 27, 2026. However, she still has zero idea of the two panels she attended that afternoon.

It was revealed that Couric had been feeling dizzy and weak. Following the incident, her husband, John Molner, took her to Aspen Valley Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with transient global amnesia. It’s a temporary condition that affects the ability to form new memories. Physicians initiated a stroke protocol, but an MRI ultimately ruled out any serious concerns.

The diagnosis session involved Couric reintroducing herself to the nurses every time they came into the room, according to Molner. He wrote, “I felt like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day as she repeatedly asked me the same questions: ‘What was I doing before we got to the hospital?’ ‘Why am I at the hospital?'”

“So why did this happen to me? Was the altitude an issue? Was I dehydrated? Tired? Stressed? The literature doesn’t seem to indicate that these are contributing factors, but the cause seems to be as mysterious as the brain itself,” Couric wrote while wondering about the entire incident. “All I know is that those hours will be forever lost.”

She called it “a freaky occurrence” but was happy to know that nothing was life-threatening. “So ultimately, I’m relieved — even though several hours of a Saturday in June will always be missing for me.”

Couric is the founder of Katie Couric Media, a multimedia news and production company. She also publishes a newsletter, Wake Up Call. For the past decade, she has also been the host of her podcast Next Question With Katie Couric.
