An update regarding MobLand Season 3 reveals whether or not Tom Hardy has truly been fired from the Paramount+ show. Rumors began circulating earlier this month that The Dark Knight Rises star would not be returning to the crime drama series following some bizarre on-set behavior.
Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand premiered on Paramount+ in March 2025. It scored a second season renewal a few months later and production on the show’s next chapter has wrapped, though a release date has not yet been set. Hardy plays Harry Da Souza in the show, while the cast also includes Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan, Paddy Considine as Kevin Harrigan, and more.
What is the update on Tom Hardy and MobLand Season 3?
Last week, reports emerged that Hardy would not be returning for Season 3 of MobLand after an alleged falling out between the actor, writer Jez Butterworth, and executive producer David C. Glasser. There was some confusion as to the accuracy of these reports, as some sites said that, while the on-set tensions seemed to be real, Hardy was still attached to the show.
Variety has now confirmed that Hardy has not been fired from MobLand.
“The door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through creatively,” an anonymous source told the outlet. Executive producer Guy Ritchie is speculated to be one of the driving factors behind Hardy’s continued employment, as “Guy likes working with Tom.”
The article further explains, “The cause of the fallout is a combination of factors, including reports of Hardy’s tardiness on set and insistence on re-writing some of the script, multiple sources confirmed to Variety. But insiders note that there is apparently fault on both sides. ‘He’s difficult, but he’s a movie star,’ a second production source said. Others pointed out that the tensions could have been amicably resolved sooner, but the leaks from production ‘sources’ alleging that Hardy has been fired have inflamed the situation, and are causing this drama to drag on.
“Per sources, Hardy was displeased because Butterworth was delivering scripts late, sometimes just a week before shooting — which clashed with the star’s ability to rehearse (‘Tom likes to prepare,’ the second source said). Butterworth was also not present on set, meaning he could not deal with script issues as they arose.”
The article goes on to explain that tensions still seem to be high, meaning the situation will continue to develop. Mirren and Brosnan were reportedly frustrated with Hardy’s flatness, but there doesn’t seem to be any impassable friction among the cast members.
