Martha Stewart reportedly admits that she “screwed up” after facing criticism for dressing up as a homeless person for Halloween. Martha Stewart reportedly issues apology over her homelessness-themed Halloween costume

Martha Stewart reportedly apologized for dressing up as a homeless person for Halloween. The renowned lifestyle mogul shared a photo on October 31, marking the occasion. She wore a T-shirt layered with another long, torn shirt and paired the outfit with ripped jeans. Standing outside her home, she held a sign that read, “I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!” As reported by TMZ, the post was intended to promote her candle collection, which she sells on QVC.

The photo quickly went viral, drawing criticism from viewers who condemned Stewart’s portrayal of a homeless person. Many argued that poverty should not be treated as a punchline or as a Halloween costume.

The photo was subsequently deleted, and, as reported by PEOPLE, Stewart later issued an apology. She told the outlet that she had thought the costume would bring “more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness.” She added that the fact that people found the costume offensive had left her “distressed.”

Stewart further noted that homelessness is one of America’s greatest challenges today. She further emphasized that she deeply cares about the issue, adding, “I am committed to continuing to make a difference.” Later, Stewart also took to Instagram to issue another apology. She wrote, “It’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up. My earlier statement didn’t go far enough.”

Stewart acknowledged that she was aware that many people were struggling financially and admitted that dressing as a homeless person was “insensitive” and not funny. She concluded her statement by saying, “I’m very sorry.”
