Jensen Ackles returned as Russell Shaw in Tracker Season 4 Episode 5, and Justin Hartley has addressed how often fans will see him again. Russell won’t appear in the next episode, but Hartley confirms the door stays open for more.
Will Russell Shaw return to Tracker after Season 4 Episode 5?
Yes, but not right away. Russell sits out the next episode, and Hartley told TV Insider that more appearances are planned. “He’s in at least one [episode], and we’ll have him back when we can. I think probably in the new year, we’ll have him back for a few.” Expect Russell to return to Tracker in 2027 episodes of Season 4.
Episode 5 gave viewers no answers about the file Russell accepted shady work to keep from Colter. Russell called his brother after months of silence, and cameras caught him leaving a dead body in a shed, confirming he remains neck-deep in trouble. The case itself took away the limelight. Russell’s friend Grant needed help after kidnappers took his wife and daughter. The ransom demanded a retraction of Grant’s report on a military weapons malfunction, not cash. Russell and Colter rescued the family, and the guilty parties landed in cuffs.
After the rescue, Russell chose to stay awhile. He grabbed beers with Colter at a bar and offered Reenie dinner. She had earlier called him after learning he was back, and he admitted he owed her a grand gesture. Whether he sticks around long enough for that date remains an open question.
After all, Hartley previously said the show will “put that away for a little bit” regarding the file, so don’t expect answers soon. For now, Ackles’ Russell Shaw remains a recurring character, and Tracker Season 4 will bring him back once the new year arrives.
