Jennifer Lawrence’s spy thriller Red Sparrow, known for its graphic nudity and shocking twists, is moving to a new streaming home. According to WBD Press, the film will leave Cinemax and become available on HBO Max starting November 1, 2026.

Released in 2018, Red Sparrow was directed by Francis Lawrence and written by Justin Haythe. The film follows Dominika Egorova, played by Lawrence, whose life takes a drastic turn when she moves from professional ballet into the world of Russian intelligence operations.

After an injury ends her career as a ballerina, Dominika faces an uncertain future and becomes involved in her uncle Ivan Egorov’s intelligence operations. She is recruited into the Sparrow School, where agents are trained to exploit their targets through psychological manipulation and seduction. Her first major assignment brings her into contact with Nate Nash, a CIA operative who manages a crucial source within Russian intelligence.

Alongside Lawrence’s Dominika Egorova, the film’s cast features Joel Edgerton as Nate Nash and Matthias Schoenaerts as Ivan Vladimirovich Egorov. Other cast members include Charlotte Rampling as the Matron, Mary-Louise Parker as Stephanie Boucher, and Ciarán Hinds as Colonel Zakharov.

The film received a mixed reception upon release. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 45 percent critics’ score based on 299 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience score stands at 51 percent. Flickering Myth reported, “Red Sparrow is lifelessly paced and frequently abusive towards female characters in the most manipulatively unsuccessful ways.”
