A royal expert has slammed Prince Harry for trying to cause a rift between Prince William and King Charles. The Duke of Sussex recently sat down with GQ’s Zach Baron, where he spoke about moving back to the UK, navigating grief and loss, and his fractured relationship with his father and brother. He also expressed his desire to reconcile with Charles and William. Now, a royal commentator has offered his expert opinion on the matter.
Expert criticise Prince Harry’s new interview move
Royal editor Matt Wilkinson has berated Prince Harry for trying to “drive a wedge” between Prince William and King Charles (via The Sun). Wilkinson accused Harry of making headline-grabbing statements when the royal family was busy preparing to welcome the Sultan of Oman for an official state visit.
He said: “If Harry is trying to drive a wedge between Charles and William, it is unlikely to work.” Wilkinson suggested that the Duke of Sussex was indirectly blaming his older brother, William, for not being more receptive to a possible reconciliation. The royal editor also accused Harry of fuelling tensions between King Charles and the future king.
Wilkinson also criticised the Sussexes for not informing King Charles of their plans to move back to the UK until they were on the verge of making the move. It is widely speculated that Harry and Meghan have not met Charles and Camilla since their brief meeting at the King’s private residence in July this year.
The royal editor also pointed out that the Duke of Sussex did not apologise for his past behaviour, which includes the Oprah interview and his 2023 memoir, Spare. Harry and Meghan marked their first joint appearance in the UK last week. They met locals, fans and volunteers from several charitable organisations in Nottingham on October 15. Nottingham holds a special place in their hearts, as it was the site of their first royal walkabout following their engagement in 2017 (via PEOPLE).
