Donald Trump‘s new White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia, made a rocky debut. This has prompted Polymarket bets on when she might be fired. The President announced Zacharia’s appointment to the role in a Friday Truth Social post. The appointment follows Karoline Leavitt’s resignation from the role in August.
Polymarket opens Katie Zacharia departure contracts after her debut
According to The Independent, following the first briefing by Donald Trump’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, bets on Polymarket have focused on when she will be fired.
Soon after, Zacharia addressed reporters after being appointed press secretary; the response was mixed. After that, a question also popped up on Polymarket, asking, “When will she be canned?”. Bets on her being fired by the end of the month currently stand at 8 percent. However, nearly 29 percent of traders think Zacharia will last only until December 31.
Zacharia’s briefing sparked an uproar on social media, with many questioning whether she can retain her position.
After she stepped up to the podium, Zacharia made visible errors in her speech, including mistakenly referring to her husband as the President before correcting herself. Moreover, the briefing ended after just 14 minutes, and Zacharia took questions from only three outlets.
Beyond criticism from Donald Trump’s critics, numerous White House officials have also slammed Zacharia’s performance. According to a report by CNN, some officials even questioned why she was rushed to the podium so early, before she was ready. A Trump advisor told the outlet, “She should have been doing murder boards for two weeks before going up there. The best thing she did was break the news about Guilfoyle — at least that takes the focus off of her performance.”
However, the President had nothing but praise for the new White House Press Secretary for doing the briefing. He told reporters, “I thought she was very good.”
