Donald Trump recently called out the appointment of New York Attorney General Letitia James in the Cornell University rape investigation. James was appointed to the role of special prosecutor to investigate the alleged gang-rape by the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul. The case came to light after a former Cornell University student filed a civil lawsuit in September.
Donald Trump criticizes the attorney general’s role as special prosecutor
US President Donald Trump took to the Truth Social platform to slam the appointment of Letitia James. The NY Attorney General was recently chosen as the special prosecutor on the Cornell rape investigation.
The President alleged that James has “zero credibility” and questioned why she was allowed to handle the case. He asked how Hochul appointed James to “investigate the Cornell rape scandal, when she is a DIRTY AND DISGUSTING COP herself?”
He urged New York Governor Kathy Hochul to reverse her decision. Then, the President stated that she must take the Attorney General off the case immediately. In addition, Trump said that Hochul should appoint “somebody who is not a Third Rate, Crooked Politician.” Trump also claimed that James’ appointment has caused more “anguish” among people regarding how the case is being handled.
According to The Independent, Trump also criticized Hochul’s decision when speaking to reporters. He described James as corrupt. Moreover, he asserted that with James overseeing the case, none of the people involved will get a “fair shake.”
In a statement released on October 1, Hochul announced that she was appointing James as the special prosecutor. At that time, she stated that she and the public have lost “faith” in Matthew Van Houten, the Tompkins County District Attorney’s ability to handle the case. She added that James was appointed to ensure every fact of the case is “fully and thoroughly investigated without conflict or bias.”
