Queen Camilla has reportedly shared her and King Charles’ routine before dinner, revealing that they enjoy sitting quietly and reading books. She also spoke about the kind of books she used to read as a teenager.
How King Charles’ loud laughter interrupts Queen Camilla’s reading
During a preview of Queen Camilla’s upcoming documentary, “The Book That Changed My Life,” she revealed that she and King Charles read books before having dinner. She explained, “I occasionally, when I’m deep in a book, hear him roaring with laughter about something. It’s very off-putting, I can’t get back into my book, or I’ll suddenly start weeping, but it’s a lovely, quiet time.”
Her Majesty said that the disappearance of books would be an “utter tragedy.” She considers reading an important part of their heritage and believes that losing this habit would mean losing an essential part of what makes everyone human. Camilla stated that reading is the “best tonic in the world.” She opened up about how she used to read D.H. Lawrence’s controversial literature, “Lady Chatterley’s Lover,” during her teens. “You know the minute something is forbidden, you want to get hold of it,” she added.
“I left school quite young. In my day, women didn’t go to university, so I think reading has been most of my education,” she explained, referring to how their era differed for women in terms of education. The documentary centers on Queen Camilla, who meets four people and hears their stories about how reading changed their lives.
Camilla is all set to join Prince William and King Charles next week at Aberfan, South Wales. Their visit is marked in relation to the 60th anniversary of the 1966 mining disaster. During their visit, they will meet survivors, bereaved parents, and community members at the Aberfan Memorial Garden. Queen Camilla is set to place a small bouquet in memory of the lives lost.
