Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla will visit Aberfan, South Wales, on October 21 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1966 mining disaster. Prince William and King Charles will make joint appearance for a reason

According to PEOPLE, Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla will visit Aberfan, South Wales, on October 21. Their attendance is to mark the 60th anniversary of the 1966 mining disaster, which took the lives of many children and adults. The disaster occurred when a coal waste tip collapsed onto Pantglas Junior School and nearby homes. Of the 144 victims, 116 were children, and 109 of them attended the school.

During this visit, the trio will meet those affected by the disaster, bereaved parents, and community members at Aberfan Memorial Garden. There, the King and the Prince of Wales will pay tribute by laying wreaths. Meanwhile, the Queen will lay a small bouquet in memory of the victims.

Queen Elizabeth II faced criticism for not visiting Aberfan immediately after the disaster, instead sending Prince Philip to the town. She visited eight days later. The Queen reportedly believed that an early visit could distract from rescue efforts, and her delayed response later became a subject of public scrutiny.

This update comes after a source recently told RadarOnline that Prince Harry and Charles Spencer’s growing alliance is bothering Prince William. “William believes the relationship risks turning longstanding family disagreements into another public confrontation, particularly when the monarchy is already facing considerable scrutiny.” This concern emerges as William faces tensions following Spencer’s controversial claims about his father.

In his memoir Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, Charles Spencer alleges that King Charles said, “We’ll forget her soon enough,” during a heated conversation following Princess Diana’s death. Buckingham Palace responded that grief can affect a person’s reason, judgment, and memory, offering a different perspective on Spencer’s recollection.
