Prince Harry is reportedly facing backlash for “weaponizing” Princess Diana‘s memory amid rumors about a new documentary. The news comes as Prince William is reportedly being praised for his vow to never appear in another Diana tribute. As the 30th anniversary of the “People’s Princess” nears, her two sons are allegedly honoring her memory in starkly different ways.
Former royal aide calls out Prince Harry over alleged Diana documentary plans
With the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in a Paris car crash approaching next year, how the milestone will be commemorated remains undecided.
According to Dickie Arbiter, former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth, the anniversary is best left unmarked. Speaking to the Daily Express, he said, “We should let her rest in peace.”
This sentiment appears to align with that of Prince William. The late royal’s firstborn made his stance clear after he and his brother appeared in two films for the 20th anniversary in 2018. He had said, “We won’t be doing this again.”
However, Prince Harry is reportedly planning to commemorate their mother’s death with another documentary. A new film from the Duke would probably be released through Netflix, where the Sussexes have a first-look arrangement. Such a move might further damage his relationship with his brother, contradicting William’s vow that they “won’t speak as openly about her again.”
Addressing speculation around the documentary, Arbiter added, “Harry is weaponizing his mother. Everything he does, he does in his mother’s name… He’s got to get on with his life. William has, and William’s doing a great job.”
Prince William currently plans to mark Princess Diana’s 30th death anniversary privately with his family. Prince Harry, on the other hand, has chosen a more public way of remembering her.
As of late 2026, the royal siblings remain estranged. Prince William reportedly still feels deeply betrayed by Harry and Meghan Markle‘s decision to air private family grievances in public.
