Sylvester Stallone says he rejected Donald Trump’s Hollywood role before discovering the appointment on TV

Sylvester Stallone recently revealed he never agreed to serve as Donald Trump’s “special ambassador” to Hollywood, according to Deadline. The three-time Oscar nominee told The Sunday Times that the ambassadorship was “impossible.” He said he would have rejected the role “if they had asked me in the beginning.”

Stallone explained that Hollywood’s structure made the position unworkable. “They have their little kingdoms,” he said. “You don’t go in and tell six studios how to do things.” He also noted that he, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight are “kind of do-our-own-thing people.”

The Tulsa King star described being completely blindsided by Trump’s announcement. “I was watching TV one night and they go, ‘So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be…'” he recounted. He added, “I went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Excuse me? Really?'”

Stallone further dismissed the role’s potential impact on the industry. “I said thank you and ciao, because it’s impossible,” he stated. He argued that “Hollywood works and it will evolve.” He also stressed that “corporate people won’t want to hear me tell them about finance.”

Despite Stallone’s skepticism, the other two ambassadors have remained active. Trump recently met with Jon Voight about creating a federal film and television tax incentive. That proposal still faces several legislative hurdles before becoming reality. Meanwhile, Mel Gibson has proposed a co-production agreement between Italy and the United States. That deal would serve as a pilot program for partnerships with other countries.
