A royal commentator recently opined that Prince Harry‘s reported plans for a movie about his late mother, Princess Diana, could create “another betrayal” with Prince William. The project could reopen painful family issues and further strain the estranged brothers’ already difficult relationship.
Prince Harry’s Diana movie plans would ‘infuriate’ Prince William, per source
Prince Harry’s plan to tell Princess Diana’s story on screen has reportedly raised questions about how Prince William might react, especially if Meghan Markle takes part creatively. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox Digital that Meghan’s involvement could make the project even more sensitive.
“It would inevitably make the project more controversial because Harry has repeatedly drawn parallels between Meghan and Diana,” Schofield said. “Those comparisons are particularly sensitive because William knew Diana in a way Meghan never could.”
Meghan never met Diana, who died in 1997. Schofield believed William could object if the film uses Diana’s experiences to strengthen Harry and Meghan’s own public narrative. “There is a difference between telling Diana’s story and using Diana’s story to validate your own or elevate yourself,” she said.
Schofield also made another claim involving a Diana-related event. She said she had heard that a fundraising dinner for The Diana Award, which Harry was expected to attend later in the month, was cancelled after William learned that Meghan planned to appear. “Meghan using a Diana-related event as a PR opportunity for herself would infuriate the heir,” she claimed.
Christopher Andersen, author of “Kate!,” suggested that William may not be the only senior royal worried about Harry’s reported Diana project. Andersen said King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Kate Middleton are also likely unhappy about the possibility of the film. Andersen claimed Kate wants the focus to remain on Prince George as he started his first week at Eton. “This was supposed to be a happy, celebratory time,” Andersen said. He claimed Harry and Meghan’s activities could shift public attention away from George.
