A lighthearted exchange between Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg during the latest season premiere of The View quickly caught viewers’ attention. The joke came as the longtime co-hosts celebrated major milestones on the daytime talk show.
Joy Behar’s joke on Whoopi Goldberg has people talking
The Joy Behar Whoopi Goldberg moment unfolded during the Season 30 premiere of The View, where the panel reflected on their years on the show. As the hosts marked Goldberg’s 20th season as moderator, Behar made a playful remark that drew laughs from the audience.
After Goldberg acknowledged the milestone with a surprised “Wow!,” Behar quipped, “She used to be white. I mean, things change here!” The joke came after Behar encouraged the audience to applaud Goldberg’s two decades at the Hot Topics table.
Earlier in the episode, Goldberg announced that Behar had officially broken a major talk show record. Having appeared in 28 of The View’s 30 seasons, Behar has hosted the most seasons of any American talk show host. Behar responded with her trademark humor, joking that she had been around since the show “was in black-and-white.” She also recalled a conversation with late creator Barbara Walters, saying Walters once told her, “You’re going to get old anyway!”
Following Behar’s joke, co-host Sunny Hostin praised both television veterans for helping guide the panel over the years. She said it had been an honor learning from them and credited Goldberg with encouraging her not to focus on social media comments or press coverage. Hostin also described Behar and Goldberg as the show’s “fearless leaders.”
The milestone premiere also paid tribute to Barbara Walters, who died in 2022. The episode opened with archival footage of the legendary journalist explaining her vision for The View when it launched in 1997. Goldberg introduced each of the current co-hosts during the opening segment of the show. She then surprised the live studio audience by revealing that everyone in attendance would receive a trip to Mexico.
