Buckingham Palace recently issued a letter to the media clarifying that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not working royals following their return to the UK. The statement stressed that any charitable work undertaken by the Sussexes is carried out in their personal capacity and has no association with the Royal Family.
According to a source, however, the couple was not given sufficient time to review the letter before it was made available to the media.
King Charles sent letter to Prince Harry an hour before media publications, sources say
Buckingham Palace released a letter to the media clarifying that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have zero involvement in royal workings and that their charitable work is carried out in a private capacity.
The letter read, “Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used. The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity. In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”
A spokesperson for the Sussexes claimed to the BBC that they were a “little surprised” that they weren’t informed about making the letter public beforehand. Another source told the Associated Press that the couple wasn’t given much time to read the letter thoroughly.
They said that the letter was received over an hour before it was sent to the media to make it public. On the contrary, BBC sources stated that Harry and Markle were well aware of the letter on Monday before the palace announced.
Markle, Harry, and their kids came to the UK on August 26, over a month after their private reunion with King Charles. They are reportedly living in a non-royal base, outside London. They continue to remain private individuals after stepping down from their royal responsibilities in 2020. Meanwhile, Archie and Lilibet currently attend a private school in the UK, whose name remains under wraps.
