Gotham fans are getting an unexpected reunion as two of the show’s stars return to television together. Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin are set to share the screen again, though they won’t be reprising their iconic DC role.
McKenzie and Baccarin will be joining the cast of Sheriff Country Season 2, according to Deadline. The duo has previously worked together in DC’s television series as a romantic couple. Interestingly, they are also married in real life.
Morena Baccarin plays Sheriff Mickey Fox, while McKenzie will join the cast as Sheriff Wade in the CBS series. Wade will assist Sheriff Fox with the case at hand. The storyline may also explore a more personal side of McKenzie’s character.
The synopsis of Season 2, according to Rotten Tomatoes, reads, “Mickey Fox, a straight-shooting sheriff in the small rural town of Edgewater, California, and stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone, must balance the demands of law enforcement with the complexities of motherhood, community politics and a past that won’t stay buried.”
How Ben McKenzie & Morena Baccarin’s Sheriff Country reunion differs from their Gotham romance
Ben McKenzie played a central role in Fox’s television series Gotham. The 47-year-old actor played Detective James Gordon, aka Jim Gordon, an honest police officer trying to navigate Gotham’s deeply corrupt police department while trying to protect the city from its criminal underworld.
Morena Baccarin, meanwhile, played Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a physician who works at Arkham Asylum. In the narrative of the show, after Jim Gordon’s relationship with Barbara Kean ended, Baccarin’s character became Gordon’s primary love interest.
Gotham premiered in 2014 and concluded in 2019. McKenzie and Baccarin worked together on the show throughout its five-season run. While the two actors met on the set, their relationship developed in real life, and they got hitched on June 2, 2017. They are now also parenting two children.
McKenzie and Baccarin will not be reunited as a romantic couple in the second season of Sheriff Country. However, the two will seemingly share significant screen time as they investigate a case together.
Sheriff Country Season 2 will premiere on October 9, 2026, on CBS and Paramount+.
