Hugh Jackman and Elizabeth Banks are lending their voices to a new documentary movie titled Mighty Mary. The first trailer for the sports documentary has arrived, and it’s not the kind of film fans might expect from either star.
Mighty Mary comes from award-winning documentary filmmaker and Olympian Mary Mazzio, known for I Am Jane Doe and A Hero for Daisy. Apart from directing the film, Mazzio also produced and co-wrote the project with Allison Abner, alongside Grant Hill.
The Wolverine star, Hugh Jackman, and Banks narrate the story and serve as executive producers among many others. Produced in partnership with Skydance Sports and Paramount’s Republic Pictures, it has a runtime of 98 minutes.

Mighty Mary tells the inspiring story of the women who made sailing history
According to the official synopsis, Mighty Mary tells the story of the first-ever-all-women’s sailing team to compete for the prestigious America’s Cup in 1995. The team was initially dismissed as a publicity stunt but went on to become a serious contender in competition. It captures an extraordinary group of athletes joining forces to challenge long-standing gender barriers in competitive sailing.
Banks called the project deeply personal in a statement. “I’m proud to be a part of this powerful documentary that shines a light on the extraordinary courage of the women aboard Mighty Mary,” she said. “This team was groundbreaking, and I hope their story inspires a new generation of women to dream bigger and never give up.”
Mazzio brings an authentic athletic lens to the project, supported by a creative crew including directors of photography Peter Levy and Patrick Ruth. The production features editing by Kyle Farmer, Mazzio, and Shondra Burke, with original music composed by Shepherd Crawford.
Mighty Mary will arrive in select theaters across the country on September 11, 2026. Before this, the movie won the Maria Mitchell Visionary Award at the 2026 Nantucket Film Festival.
