The Cliffhanger remake starring Pierce Brosnan has finally landed a reported release date. The film was originally set to star Sylvester Stallone before the project was reworked as a reboot in 2024. The reported new release date comes after its initial distributor, Row K, reportedly ran into financial problems.
According to a report from World of Reel, the Cliffhanger remake is reportedly set to be released on February 27, 2027. It was originally reported to debut this month, and when it does arrive, it will open in over 3000 screens across the United States.
What else do we know about the Cliffhanger remake?
The Cliffhanger remake will follow Brosnan as mountaineer Ray Cooper, who operates a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with his daughter, Sydney, played by Lily James. The story will see the duo being targeted by kidnappers during a trip. The rest of the cast includes Nell Tiger Free, festival darling Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery.
According to the report, the film has found a new distributor in Neon. The company previously distributed films including Anora and The Life of Chuck, and other celebrated films. Neon is reportedly hoping for Cliffhanger to become its “biggest box-office success” ever after backing the $100 million thriller.
The report also reveals that Cliffhanger has tested well in private screenings. Row K reportedly sold the film to Neon for $12 million, with more for advertising. However, the distributor will still be involved in the film “in some capacity.”
All of this comes after years of production issues, including several rewrites and changes in its director and cast. The latest iteration is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously helmed Black Adam, Jungle Cruise, The Woman in the Yard, and more.
Neon has yet to officially announce Cliffhanger’s release date, which is reported to be February 27, 2027.
